THÆ EXIST
Millions of gender queer people speak languages with gendered words, like “un doctor” in Spanish or “l’actrice” in French, which can exclude non-binary identities in writing.
This project introduced “æ” as a way to create a more inclusive written form of language.
In partnership with Google, we explored how the character could exist across Search and Apps, including a custom keyboard. The stories behind genderqueer communities were shared through a Posterzine® registered with the British Library, alongside T-shirts and social content. Proceeds supported Divergenres, an organisation for binary and non-binary trans people in Quebec.
